Our top priority for all of the students and horses in our program is safety. We keep this at the forefront by setting the right foundation for riders and their equine partners. From the high level of attention horses receive in our care, to building strength at the flat in dressage lessons with Carlie, and learning how to safely complete a jump course with Charlie in the arena, we are ready to work with you and your horse every step of the way.
Carlie focuses her training on balance, harmony, and the principles of classical equitation. Her students and horses in training appreciate her patience, consistency, and sense of humor.
Carlie has run and managed some of the premier boarding and lesson programs on the East Coast. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Equine Business Management from Post University in 2012. In addition, in 2011 Carlie received her stage 1-3 and PTT certifications from the prestigious British Horse Society. Carlie is an active competitor and coach on the Dressage circuit in Region 1. She can also be found coaching her eventing students in Area II. Carlie has produced her American-bred Oldenburg, Shtratego from a 3 year old. She has successfully competed through Intermediaire I and earned her USDF Bronze Medal in 2020 and UDSF Silver Medal with Distinction in 2023.
At HSM Equestre Centre, Carlie focuses her training on balance, harmony, and the principles of classical equitation. Her students and horses in training appreciate her patience, consistency, and sense of humor. Carlie also manages all horses in the barn; she strongly believes that creating a consistent program of wellness, prevention, and happy horses will make training more enjoyable for horses and humans alike.
Charlie is committed to providing his students with a well-rounded education in all three phases, with his main focus based on classical equitation. His students love his positivity, passion for the sport, and his ability to create relatable analogies as it pertains to riding.
Charlie started his eventing career in Area 1. Throughout his time, Charlie has worked and ridden for multiple 5* and Olympic team riders. He was given the opportunity to produce multiple horses through the FEI levels. He is also very gifted at and developing a well-rounded system for producing young horses. Charlie created a successful business in California; he rode for several hunter-jumper barns and created his own eventing sales yard.
In 2022, Charlie returned to the East Coast to perfect his teaching and coaching. In Maryland, he helped run a very busy lesson program for eventing and dressage students.
Charlie’s primary focus, above all else, is teaching students how to understand important fundamentals before focusing on the competitive aspect. He does this by focusing on defensive position and correct progression in training so his students are extremely prepared to ride the same whether they are schooling at home or competing at a show.
His students love his positivity, passion for the sport, and his ability to create relatable analogies as it pertains to riding. Charlie is also a very active competitor and coach in Area II. He has evented through the 3* level and is now working on competing in dressage as well.
As a rider, having frequent, consistent instruction from two upper-level trainers is extremely valuable and an opportunity most riders never experience. As an owner, I couldn’t ask for better care or training. Carlie and Charlie prioritize the horses’ well-being and have a network of excellent vets and farriers who share their philosophy. They worked closely with my vet on a rehabilitation program after my horse got himself into trouble. Their thoughtful care brought him back to 100%. Today, he’s better than ever!
